| Surgery assisted by robots allows doctors to perform surgeries in a much safer fashion. With advanced applications of hardware and software engineering, robots controlled by humans can perform operations with precision and flexibility. It is also better than traditional surgery in that any incisions and insertions into the patient are optimized for minimum invasiveness. In addition, robotic surgeries can be performed from a long distance—there have been cases of heart surgeries being performed from across the Atlantic. This means that, with the aid of robotics, the most experienced surgeons may soon be able to practice their craft across the globe. Robotic component may soon become a surgeon's most valuable tool. |

Distance learning is a form of learning different from conventional education. Distance learning allow for the student to not physically be at a education facility such as a school or an university. With the availability of distance learning, students can often complete an programme in the comforts of their own homes.
The earliest form of distance learning took place before the age of the Internet through correspondence letters and radios. With the advancement of technology, distance learning is now mostly done on the Internet, allowing for real time education with greater interactivity. Distance learning can benefit those who are unable to travel to a traditional education facility. Distance learning can service stay-at-home mothers, people who live in extremely remote areas, as well as other immobile people. Critics of distance learning claim that students operating without physical supervision can cheat more easily, as there is no way of confirming who is answering the questions on the other side. However, as the advancement of technology continues, the quality of distance education will only increase.
It has been said that President Barrack Obama won both the 2008 and 2012 elections by influencing the youth via social media. While it is still debatable, there are many examples that support this claim.
During the 2008 elections, Barack Obama's website, https://www.barackobama.com/, was a major tool for his campaign. Developed by Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, his website partly acted as a social network that people could sign up for. In addition, he maintained active Facebook and Twitter accounts. His Twitter account current has the third most followers in the world. Social media allows President Obama to read and respond to messages of potential voters thousands of miles away. This allowed him to appear more down to earth to his citizens, particularly from younger voters, and maintain popularity in votes.
Electronic waste, or e-waste, is the current planet's fastest growing type of rubbish on the planet. Every year, up to 20 to 50 million tons of e-waste is dumped in undesirable places, and the amount is growing annually. Although e-waste only amounts to 2% of total waste, it releases up to 70% of all toxic materials into the Earth.
E-waste is often recyclable, but it is rarely down. In the United States, only 27% of used electronics is recycled. Even worse, there exists many companies in the West that claim to recycle their clients electronics, but actually ship to foreign countries such as Ghana, China, India, and Nigeria. This is because properly recycling e-waste is generally very expensive, and may often amount to a loss of money rather than a profit. While it may seem like we are helping developing nations by giving us our electronics, there are still numerous consequences of our actions. The e-waste in the dumps, such as in Guiyu, China, contaminate the soil with toxins used to make electronics, such as mercury. They are processed by the locals and their children, often without safety equipment. Unless we find a cheaper and safer alternative to managing our e-waste, our e-waste exports will continuously increase every year, and continue to affect the residents of foreign nations. |
